High-Performance Ammonia Probes

Techniques for Orion’s new High Performance Ammonia Electrode

None of the old supplies can be used with this probe. This includes filling solution, membranes, membrane caps, ISA buffer, or storage solution.
ISA buffer – do not use the “blue stuff” for measurements under 20ppm. The new buffer is NCL’s 10N sodium hydroxide (S-41) or Orion’s alkaline solution (O-951011). Use 1ml / 100ml of sample or standard.
Storage solution – do not use 100 or 1000ppm ammonia standard, use 1ppm ammonia standard (NCL’s A-37C) with 1ml of alkaline solution (or 10N sodium hydroxide) per 100ml.
Take reading as soon as it is stable or the meter is “Ready”. This probe is fast responding and does not require a 4 minute wait time.
As always, check and eliminate air bubbles both inside the probe and on the membrane after inserting into solution.
